The New Schubert Edition (Neue Schubert-Ausgabe) is a scholarly-critical edition of the complete surviving works of Franz Schubert (1797–1828). Its eighty-four volumes are divided by category into eight series, including a thematic catalogue, a documentary biography, and studies of the sources. Each volume has an appendix citing the major sources and alternative readings (“Quellen und Lesarten”) and is augmented by a separate critical report.
The New Schubert Edition has been in progress at its editorial offices in Tübingen and Vienna since 1965. The international project is managed by the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz and is based at the Department of Musicology at the Eberhard Karls University, Tübingen, as well as at the Austrian Center for Digital Humanities of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna.
